Backflow Testing in Broward & Palm Beach County, FL
Licensed · Certified · Insured · Women-Owned
If your county, city, or water utility has notified you that backflow testing is due, you are in the right place. Amy’s Backflows handles the testing, paperwork, and certification filing — so you can check this off your list and get back to what matters.
What Is Backflow Testing and Why Is It Required?
Backflow happens when water flows in the wrong direction through your plumbing — potentially allowing contaminated water to enter the clean public water supply. Pressure changes from water main breaks, heavy demand, or firefighting can cause it to happen without warning.
⚠ Florida Law Requires Annual Testing: The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and local water utilities require annual backflow preventer testing for most commercial and many residential properties. Failure to comply can result in fines or water service interruption.
A certified backflow tester must perform the test using calibrated equipment and submit the results directly to your water utility. That is exactly what Amy’s Backflows does — testing, filing, and documentation all handled for you.
What Types of Backflow Preventers Do We Test?
Our certified technicians test all standard backflow preventer types. Not sure what you have? No problem — our technician identifies it on-site.
RPZ Assemblies
Reduced Pressure Zone — highest protection level, required for commercial and irrigation systems.
Double Check Valve (DC)
Used in lower-hazard applications including residential irrigation and fire suppression lines.
Pressure Vacuum Breakers (PVB)
Common in residential irrigation systems throughout Broward and Palm Beach County.
Atmospheric Vacuum Breakers (AVB)
Found in older residential irrigation setups. We identify and test these as well.
Spill-Resistant Vacuum Breakers (SVB)
Used where a PVB is not suitable. Tested to current ASSE and utility standards.
What to Expect: The Testing Process
Backflow testing is straightforward and typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. Here is exactly what happens:
1
Schedule Your Appointment
Book online or call us directly. We confirm a day and time that works for you.
2
Brief Water Interruption
Water to the backflow assembly is shut off briefly during testing. We let you know in advance so you can plan.
3
Test and Inspection
Using calibrated differential pressure gauges, we test each check valve and relief valve against FDEP and utility standards.
4
Pass or Fail Result
If your device passes, we submit the report to your water utility. If it fails, we explain what is wrong and what is needed.
5
Certification Filed
You receive documentation for your records. Your annual backflow certification is handled — done.
